Water Resources
Water withdrawals and recharge from groundwater and surface water supplies consists of a complex interaction that can have both predicted and unpredicted consequences.
JSA offers significant expertise in the study of groundwater-surface water interactions, groundwater movement, contaminant hydrology and vadose zone hydrology. |

Our experience ranges from field sampling to development of advanced 3-dimensional groundwater water models. We have designed and implemented monitoring-well networks, developed numerical models to simulate groundwater flow and contaminant transport, and constructed complex groundwater-surface water models.
For nearly 30 years, JSA has used our extensive knowledge of Southeast hydrogeology to help clients develop new, sustainable groundwater supplies. Our clients have included numerous municipalities, public utility districts, housing developers, and private industries. We specialize in identifying optimal sites for supply wells, a process that must often consider regulatory constraints, impacts to nearby streams and users, and adjacent land uses that
may adversely affect water quality. We have worked in a variety of hydrogeologic settings, including coastal areas, agricultural lands, and urban environments.
In addition to those services described above, our groundwater expertise includes:
· Consumptive Use Permitting
· Characterization of aquifer properties
· Estimation of impacts of well pumping on water levels and surface water flows
· Design and implementation of pumping tests
· Development of mitigation measures to offset groundwater withdrawals
· Simulation of contaminant fate and transport in groundwater systems
Spring Water Resource Certification
Jim Stidham and Associates performs both Bottled Water Standard of Identity (21 CFR 165.110(a)) and Bottled Water Standard of Quality (21 CFR 165.110(b)) assessments for prospective and existing sources. Our hydrologists assist with certification for distribution in all 50 states, with particular respect to the additional requirements for Georgia and New Hampshire. We are fully equipped to provide all aspects of watershed vulnerability assessment, hydraulic connectivity, testing for Ground Water Under the Direct Influence of Surface Water by MPA, geochemical evaluation, and borehole lithology. We can further provide and maintain Consumptive Use Permitting and Environmental Impact Assessment requirements. |
